Postdoctoral positions in vision and auditory research
Two newly created positions, one in vision and one in audition, are available in the lab of Dale Purves, which has now moved to the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore. Research in the laboratory concerns visual and auditory perception and the neurobiological underpinnings of perceptual phenomena. Ongoing investigations in vision include understanding the perception of brightness, color, orientation, motion, and depth; the interest in audition concerns understanding the tonal relationships in music arising from the similarity of musical dyads and voiced speech spectra. The unifying theme of these projects is the hypothesis that visual and auditory percepts are generated according to a wholly empirical strategy that represents in perception the empirical significance of sensory stimuli rather than their physical properties. These issues are being explored by psychophysics, analyses of natural image and sound databases, and the emerging properties of virtual organisms evolving in defined environments. See purveslab.net for details. Applicants should have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, computer science or a related discipline. Applications must include a CV with the names and contact information of three references, preferably sent by email to purves@neuro.duke.edu. Applications by regular mail to should be addressed to Dale Purves, M.D., Director, Neuroscience and Behavioral Disorders Program, Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, 8 College Road, Singapore 169857

Postdoctoral Position Available: Neural Basis of Auditory Perception
A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Groh laboratory to study the neural basis of auditory perception. The focus of the laboratory is auditory, visual, and oculomotor processing. Our main technique is single-unit recording in awake animals performing behavioral tasks involving eye movements. Behavioral analyses and computational modeling also consitute an important component of our work. Experience with electrophysiological recording and skills in quantitative analysis and programming are desirable. For more information on the laboratory, please see www.duke.edu/~jmgroh. To apply, please email plain text cover letter including the names of 2-3 references and CV to jmgroh@duke.edu. Posted by: Dr. Jennifer M. Groh, LSRC Rm B203, Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, Duke University, Durham, NC 27708.

Post-doctoral Level Project Coordinator
The Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN) at Duke University invites applicants for a Project Coordinator (PC) in the genetics of primate social behavior in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Platt. Requirements: The PC must hold a PhD in behavior, neurobiology, genetics, or a related field. Responsibilities: The PC will oversee the goals of the project, organize and manage genetic and behavioral databases, and co-ordinate personnel and research institutes. The PC will also travel to the Cayo Santiago field site in Puerto Rico to confer with local personnel, review ongoing behavioral studies, and collect specimens for genotyping. We are particularly interested in applicants with database management experience, expertise in gene-behavior association studies, and strong personal interaction skills. The PC will meet monthly with all investigators and personnel on Duke’s campus as well as via conference call with personnel at other sites to review progress, identify problems, and correct setbacks. The PC will also coordinate yearly meetings of the entire research team at Duke University in order to review data, revise techniques, and plan future research. Deadline: The PC position is available immediately. This position has been created with ARRA Stimulus funding and is a limited term appointment that is contingent upon the availability of additional research funds. Send a statement of research interest, CV, and 3 letters of reference electronically to Dr. Michael Platt via email: platt@neuro.duke.edu. Duke University is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.

Post-doctoral Research Associate in Neuroscience
The Center for Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN) at Duke University invites applicants for a post-doctoral position in the neurobiology of numerical behavior in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Platt and Dr. Elizabeth Brannon. Requirements: The research associate will hold a PhD in neuroscience, cognitive psychology, or a related field. Responsibilities: The research associate will join a team focused on determining how neurons in parietal cortex extract numerosity information from the sensory world. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in single neuron electrophysiology, although applicants with experience in brain imaging or experimental psychology will also be considered. Applicants with strong quantitative skills are particularly encouraged to apply.
